Ocean Enterprises Foundation was established in 2013 by Werner and Myra Kurn. Because of their love of SCUBA diving and many years of successfully serving San Diegans, the Kurns wanted to give back. Werner and Myra created the Ocean Enterprises Foundation to ensure that no person will be precluded from participating in scuba diving due to physical or financial hardship.
The Ocean Enterprises Foundation is currently working with wounded veterans teaching them how to scuba dive and aiding them with their transition back to regular life at home. Ocean Enterprises provides consistent, quality training and service to disabled divers. Our team is trained in all aspects of service for a multitude of disabilities including PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), paraplegia, quadriplegia, and loss of hearing or vision. In 2007 we had our first San Diego instructors certified through the Handicapped Scuba Association (HSA) and to date have 10 qualified instructors available to teach this program.
The US government has a grant program available to all wounded warriors but requires that they pass rigorous physical and mental examinations in order to be approved. Once approved, the warriors are put on a wait list that would take years to get through. Ocean Enterprises Foundation was formed to aid the government in getting more warriors through the program.
